Learn the fundamentals of cold process soap making with Emlyn, founder of Solid Soaps. This hands-on workshop is designed for 1 to 3 participants, ages 13 and up (with a parent or guardian present).

During this 1.5 to 2 hour workshop, you will be guided through the cold process method, learning the basics of formulation and safe soap making practices. All materials are provided.

Each participant will leave with a printed recipe and handout, along with a soap loaf mold containing approximately one pound of their own custom soap to cure at home.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and long sleeves. Goggles, gloves, and aprons will be provided. This workshop does involve handling sodium hydroxide (lye), so safety protocols will be followed.

For groups larger than three, please reach out to discuss private event options.

melt and pour soaps

MELT + POUR SOAP MAKING

$40 per person + tax

If you’re looking for a team-building event or private group experience for four or more people, consider a melt and pour (MP) workshop. This option is great for all ages because we do not handle sodium hydroxide. We have even taught children as young as two years old with a parent or guardian present.

Emlyn will share background information and a bit of the chemistry behind soap making before guiding participants through creating their own soaps. All materials are provided, and each person will make at least two melt and pour soaps.

Time permitting, Emlyn can also demonstrate cold process soap making for those interested in seeing how soap is made from scratch.

The workshop lasts approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, with additional time to ask questions, connect, and shop. Participants will un-mold their soaps after about 30 to 45 minutes.

For 2-4 persons, this workshop may be hosted in Emlyn's studio.

For parties of 5 or more, we will need to secure a larger venue outside of Emlyn’s small studio. No worries, we know a few great spots! *4 person minimum if not hosted in Emlyn’s studio.*

    • Payment is necessary to reserve your date/time for a class.
    • The melt & pour class has a 4 person minimum if hosted outside of Emlyn's studio and may be cancelled if minimum is not met 48 hours prior to class.
    • Solid Soaps reserves the right to cancel a workshop at any time, and you'll be issued a full refund.
    • In inclement weather we reserve the right to cancel class if we deem that weather would make traveling to class dangerous. Every attempt will be made to schedule a makeup for the missed class. (Solid Soaps follows AISD inclement weather protocols.)
    • Need to cancel or schedule? Please reach out ASAP! We will not give refunds for no-shows or cancellations within 48 hours of a class.
    • By participating in a workshop, you, the participant, assumes full responsibility for the dangers and risks to yourself (and/or your minor) in activities related to creating bath and body products, working with chemicals, working with equipment, tools and appliances, full responsibility for any injuries or damages resulting from your (and/or your minor’s) participation, and you will use good judgment in all phases of your (and/or your minor’s) participation.

WHAT IS COLD PROCESS SOAP MAKING?

Cold process soap making is a traditional method of making soap from scratch. Fats/oils/butters are blended with sodium hydroxide (aka lye), and it undergoes a chemical reaction called saponification. This method of soap making allows for better customization because you determine the soap ingredients. After 24-48 hours, you cut your soap, and we recommend curing your soap for 4-6 weeks.
